At present, there are many tongue drum products claiming to be made of carbon steel, but the quality varies.
How to distinguish and avoid buying inferior products?
Ok, leave it to me
The first is the material.
There are two kinds of ethereal drums: one is made of carbon steel and the other is made of iron.
So, how do you tell?
The easiest and most scientific method is to use magnets, so there is no need to say more about the operation, right?
Iron: hold firmly
Carbon steel material: smooth rolling
The second is to listen to the tone.
Let's listen to the difference between carbon steel and iron.
The tone of carbon steel material is very pleasant and melodious...
There is a feeling of being in the bamboo forest, sitting cross-legged and sipping tea.
Iron is very bad
There is noise, the ending is very long
It made me feel dizzy.
The carbon steel ethereal drums on the market are high-end musical instruments, all priced at more than US$160.
Remind every fan of ethereal drums, you must identify them carefully before buying.
Don't buy cheap carbon steel ethereal drums.
I searched for a reasonable, priced hand pan. This one looked great and it sounded great in the demo.
I got it in the mail with no problem, it does sound great! I am more used to the 8 note version but maybe the octave 9 note will be good. I got the hard shell travel bag, it looks indestructible, and comes with the soft bag. Superior craftsmanship at a fair price.
Had to make the video super short.

When I first saw the HLURU K21 Kalimba, I wasn't so interested in it, becaused it seemed "too pretty" in order to be a good instrument. It seemed like some of those beautiful acrylic kalimbas which habe pictures of anime girls imprinted but end um having dead tines and so on. I thought this one would also into this style over substance category.
Was I wrong.
The K21 sounds really good. Each tine has sustain, none of them sound dull or dead. What I like particularly on this instrument is the compact shape of the body. It is more round, feels good and allows best access to the tines from all angles.
Like the HLURU K17 Flatboard it presents attributes of wooden kalimbas as the light weight but the sound has some resemblance of acrylic kalimbas as well.
It has a little weaker resonance which makes it sound not so powerful like wooden kalimbas but more sweet and delicate.
The tines are quite thin and easy to tune - unfortunately they also untune themselves a little easier, but that's not so much of a problem.
The only real downside I found was that the four lowest tines underneath the C have a strong overtones. So strong in fact that my tuning app couldn't recognize the actual undertone of the tine itself.
However, I found a way to fix this issue: I put long tine stickers onto those tines. These stickers are usually too thick and heavy and influence the resonance of the tines very strongly. In that case however it was exactly what I needed. The overtones were canceled out. It sounds lovely now.
PS.: Oh, and the instrument body looks cool as well. ;-)

The harp itself is wonderful, sounds great, 5 stars. If you haven't had a string instrument before then don't panic if it keeps going out of tune to begin with. I had to tune mine at least once a day to start with but after 2 weeks it's holding its tune well. The service could have been better. I paid for the fast delivery but it took 4 weeks. It was a spring holiday so no one was working for a couple of weeks then the one I ordered was out of stock but no one let me know about either of these. If you contact them they are quick to reply and are helpful but it would have been nice for them to let me know to avoid delays. Very happy with my beautiful harp now it's here.
We're so glad you enjoyed our lyre harp and thank you for giving us a five-star review.
Yes, your order happened to coincide with our Spring Festival holiday. Because the holiday is approaching, some products have been temporarily suspended and are out of stock. Thank you very much for your understanding.
In addition, for orders that are temporarily out of stock or need to be delayed due to long holidays, we will send an email to the customer to inform and communicate. However, sometimes the email may be lost due to problems with the email delivery system. This situation is rare, but it cannot be completely avoided. Once again, we apologize and thank you for your understanding.

HLURU 17 Key Flat Board Kalimba Thumb Piano, Maple Scalloped Single Board C Tone Kalimba Instrument The sound is a beautiful middle ground between wooden and acrylic kalimba. It's a little bit quieter than usual solid wooden kalimba but the sound is sweeter, more like the acrylic ones. A little less volumous resonance.
The tines are strongly curved and easy to play, also a very lightweight instrument. Not a single tine sounds dull or dead.
Overall a gorgeous instrument.
Very happy to see you enjoyed our kalimba. Although this maple kalimba is cheap, the quality is very good and the price-performance ratio is very high.
Thank you for your fair and detailed review of our product, it is very important to us.
Hope to see you next time.
